Pause To Avoid A Puppy Scam

April 2013: Looking for a furry friend? Watch out – scammers continue to use cute and cuddly canines to pull on people’s heart strings and get them to part with their money.

SCAMwatch has received an increase in the number of scams involving puppies this year. This scam typically involves ads for non-existent puppies being placed in newspapers and online classifieds at suspiciously low prices. The ‘seller’ provides interested buyers with pictures of an adorable puppy and then tricks them into paying fees for transport, customs or medical costs before the dog can be delivered. Once the payment is made, the puppy and money vanish without a trace.

Scammers prey upon individuals and families who just want to give a dog a good home.

Don’t let your search for a furry friend be sidelined by a scammer – make sure the seller and the puppy are the real deal.
How these scams work

  • You visit a reputable newspaper or online classifieds website where you come across an ad offering a pedigree puppy for a really cheap price. The ad may include a picture of a very cute puppy and claim that it is registered and has been ‘lovingly raised’.
  • If you wish to buy the dog, the ‘seller’ will often claim that they have moved interstate or overseas and that you will need to pay for transport or medical costs before the puppy can be delivered. The ‘seller’ asks for payment to be made via money transfer.
  • If you pay, you will never receive the puppy or see your money again.
  • If the scammer claims that the puppy is overseas, they may pretend that non-delivery is due to customs or quarantine issues, and that further payment is due before the puppy will be released. Again, any further money sent will be lost and the dog will never be delivered.

Protect yourself

  • Be cautious – if the advertised price of a pedigree puppy looks too good to be true, it probably is.
  • Don’t trust the legitimacy of an ad just because it appears in a reputable newspaper or online classifieds website – scammers often use these.
  • Avoid any arrangement with a stranger that asks for upfront payment via money order or wire transfer – it’s rare to recover money sent this way.
  • Search online using the exact wording in the ad—many well-known scams can be found this way.
  • If you are in doubt, seek advice from someone in the industry such as a reputable breeders association, vet or local pet shop.
  • Remember: it is impossible to import a dog from overseas into Australia in a few weeks as quarantine procedures need to be followed. For details check the requirements with the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service.

Inner Circle I-Octane & Bizerk – Young Wild & Free

Inner Circle I-Octane & Bizerk – Young Wild & Free

Inner Circle I-Octane & Bizerk - Young Wild & Free

The original Bad Boys of Reggae – Inner Circle, have finally released their highly anticipated music video for the reggae remix of Wiz Khalifa’s, “Young, Wild & Free.”

The song also features Bizerk and dancehall singjay I-Octane in the mix. Look out for cameos from Flo Rida, Tony Matterhorn and Nefatari as well.

Inner Circle is a Jamaican reggae group. The group was formed in 1968 by the brothers Ian and Roger Lewis in Jamaica. With Jacob Miller as their frontman and lead singer the band was one of the most popular in Jamaica during the 70’s, and one of few reggae bands that performed live. They are responsible for the 1987 song “Bad Boys,” which serves as the theme song for Fox Network’s long-running television program COPS. However, at first they covered soul and R&B hits from the United States, and then also a few reggae songs, predominantly from Bob Marley.

 Career

The band released its debut album in 1974 on the famed record label, Trojan Records, and resigned in 1979 to Island Records, where the internationally successful album Everything Is Great originated. This album reached top 20 in the UK and preceded their other chart success by some years.

The original Inner Circle included Ibo Cooper (keyboards), Stephen Cat Core (guitar), Funky Brown (vocals), Prilly (vocals), Ian and Roger Lewis, and Mr. Lewis. The band’s residence was originally on Holborn Road in New Kingston. In latter years they had a horn section that included Douglas Gutherie on alto sax and Leighton Johnson on trumpet; both were former members of the Excelsior High School band. During that time the band toured extensively to North America and Bermuda. At the end of this time, Ibo and Cat started their own band, Third World, whose hits included, “Now That We Found Love” and “Ninety Six Degrees in the Shade”. Ibo, Cat, and Funky Brown were at this time students of the University of the West Indies studying for various degrees.   Read More lyricsfreak.com

The Milli Vanilli Tragedy

The Milli Vanilli Tragedy

The Milli Vanilli Tragedy

Milli Vanilli. The mere mention of the name still calls up the same derision it did when the dance-pop duo’s career came to a sudden and ignominious end:

Fakers. Frauds. A blatant marketing scam. Their story has been retold countless times: after selling millions of records, Rob Pilatus and Fabrice Morvan were revealed to be models who publicly lip-synced to tracks recorded by anonymous studio vocalists. They became the first act ever stripped of a Grammy award and came to symbolize everything people disliked about dance-pop: it was so faceless that every musician involved could remain anonymous without anyone knowing the difference, so mechanical and artificial that the people who constructed it had to hire models to give it any human appeal, so pandering and superficial that people bought it just for its attachment to a pretty face.

Whether that assessment was fair or not, it was beyond easy to hold Milli Vanilli in contempt. Yet for all the scapegoating, they were far from the only dance-pop act to be fronted by lip-syncers in the late ’80s (the Martha Wash-voiced Black Box and C+C Music Factory spring to mind), nor were they the only Europop act to employ similar marketing tactics. (They were simply the most successful and visible, since their incorporation of rap made them more appealing to Americans.) What’s more, pop music had a long tradition of hits recorded by anonymous studio musicians, dating back to ’50s instrumental combos and ’60s bubblegum.
Milli Vanilli had the bad luck to get caught in a hoax during the extraordinarily image-conscious MTV era and a time when dance music of any stripe was accorded virtually no critical respect anyway, before its producers were perceived as the real creative points of focus. It’s not as though Milli Vanilli were acclaimed for their honesty of expression before the scandal broke; it’s more likely that what fuelled the backlash was public resentment over Rob and Fab’s celebrity (why should they be famous if they couldn’t sing?) and embarrassment over the fact that Milli Vanilli’s marketing had worked like a charm on everyone right up through the Grammy committee.  Source allmusic

How It all Started

Very late in the year of 1970 a motorcycle magazine by the name of Motorcycle World (now defunct), printed a letter written by a fellow who was about to take delivery on a brand new 1970 750cc Moto Guzzi Ambassador. moto guzzi ambassador

The new motorcycle owner – Dennis Sterlace, had written the magazine asking for people about their experience and what they considered the pros and cons of the Moto Guzzi Ambassador.

Frank Wedge  wrote to Dennis and they began exchanging letters. After corresponding for a month or more, Frank and Dennis decided to try to get a Moto Guzzi correspondence club going. Dennis lived in Lackawanna, New York, and Frank lived in the tiny town of to Sylvan Grove, Kansas.

Frank wrote a letter to Road Rider magazine. Road Rider printed his letter, which asked for interested Moto Guzzi owners to contact either Dennis or Frank . Letters (although small in numbers at first) began coming in from all parts of the United States and a couple from Canada.

The MGNOC (Moto Guzzi National Owners Club)  is now an international club for the Moto Guzzi  owner and enthusiast.  Membership totals around 3200 people. All 50 states are represented, also several provinces in Canada and 16 or 17 other countries.

The MGNOC  is a small club, compared to some, but the members are very devoted to the marque, and most are active motorcyclists who probably ride more miles in an average year than many motorcyclists.

Now, 25 years later, Frank sometimes thinks back at how everything fell into place so that Dennis and himself were able to start up the Moto Guzzi National Owners Club . They are friendly group and  welcome any and all to attend their rallies or join the club.

Club Meetings and Rides Information

People who ride other brands of motorcycles often comment on how much they enjoy attending the rallies, and so the MGNOC  invite others to visit them at their various activities throughout the United States.

Moto Guzzi powered in Texas

In Italy, there is one motorcycle marque that stands above all others when it comes to history and tradition: Moto Guzzi. Today Guzzi is seen very much as a traditionalist, but this was not always so. From its inception shortly after the first Great War, its initial efforts remain shining examples of vision and achievement – and this would continue until the end of the 1950’s, some four decades later. From its Mandelo del Lario factory came a constant stream of mould-breaking designs which were to achieve glory on both road and track.

Goat Edition Songs The Ultimate TOP 15

If you’re among the millions who have spent a significant portion of the past month watching videos of goats yelling like humans, you may have wondered: Why do goats yell like that? Are they distressed? Do they yell for any particular reason? Are they trying to tell us something?

We asked the goat experts. The first thing we learned is that the goat experts are not amused. “Maybe for some it is entertaining,” Dr. An Peischel of Tennesse State University told me. “I am a goat producer and don’t consider it entertainment at all.”

They were quick to point out that some of these “goats” are not, in fact, goats at all. “The individuals making the noises were not all goats,” wrote Dr. Peischel, “There are several sheep involved.”

Yelling, for goats, is not unusual. They will yell for all sorts of reasons. “Mother goats call for their young when they get separated,” explained goat specialist Dr. Daniel Waldron of Texas A&M, and “young kid goats also call for their mothers.” “Goats may also ‘yell’ when they expect to get fed,” continued Dr. Waldron. “If I feed one pen of goats, the second pen may start ‘yelling’ because they want to be fed right now.”

Dr. Jean-Marie Luginbuhl of North Carolina State, a specialist in meat goats, agreed. “In my experience with goats, it does not take much for them to scream bloody murder, as if you are torturing them, when simply handling them.”  Read More: http://www.slate.com

Fainting Goats

Fainting Goats

Fainting Goats

myotonic goat, otherwise known as the fainting goat, is a domestic goat whose muscles freeze for roughly 10 seconds when the goat feels panic. Though painless, this generally results in the animal collapsing on its side. The characteristic is caused by a hereditary genetic disorder called myotonia congenita. When startled, younger goats will stiffen and fall over. Older goats learn to spread their legs or lean against something when startled, and often they continue to run about in an awkward, stiff-legged shuffle. Slightly smaller than standard breeds of the goat, fainting goats are generally 43 to 64 cm (17 to 25 in) tall and can weigh anywhere from 27 to 79 kg (60 to 170 lb). Males, or bucks, as they are often referred to can be as heavy as 200 pounds.  They have large, prominent eyes in high sockets. Their hair can be short or long, with certain individuals producing a great deal of cashmere during colder months. There appears to be no angora strain of the fainting goat. Common coat colours are black and white; however, most possible coat colours are found in this breed.

Fainting goats have many other names, including Myotonic Goats, Tennessee (Meat) Goats, Nervous Goats, Stiff-leg Goats, Wooden-leg Goats, and Tennessee Fainting Goats. They are smaller and somewhat easier to care for and maintain than larger meat goat breeds, which makes the fainting goat desirable for smaller farms. They are also raised as pet or show animals as they can be friendly, intelligent, easy to keep, and amusing. The “Fainting Goat” myth was tested on the U.S. television show Mythbusters

Fainting goats have a muscle condition, which is called myotonia congenita. This is a condition which occurs in many species, including humans. The goats do not truly “faint” in any sense of the word, as they never lose consciousness because of their myotonia. They remain fully conscious.  Read More At wikipedia

Peter Tosh And Mick Jagger – Walk And Don t Look Back

Peter Tosh And Mick Jagger – Walk And Don t Look Back

Peter Tosh And Mick Jagger - Walk And Don t Look Back

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Twenty-five years after his murder, Jamaica’s government on Monday honored the contributions of firebrand reggae musician and songwriter Peter Tosh, one of the Caribbean island’s musical giants.

Tosh’s daughter Niambe, an educator from Boston, Massachusetts, received the posthumous “order of merit” – the country’s third highest honor – on behalf of her late father during an annual national awards ceremony on the lawns of King’s House, the residence of Jamaica’s governor general.

Tosh was a founding member of the Wailers, forming the three-man core of the group with Bob Marley and Bunny “Wailer” Livingston. Hard-hitting solo albums like “Equal Rights” and his work with the Wailers helped make homegrown reggae music known internationally. He was cut down at age 42 in 1987, murdered by robbers in his Jamaican home.

The always outspoken, defiant Tosh was known for forcefully denouncing apartheid, government corruption and calling for the legalization of marijuana. Musical colleagues and fans say the lanky, baritone singer and guitarist was a mesmerizing performer with a charismatic, larger-than-life personality.

Tosh is perhaps reggae’s most controversial figure. During the government-organized One Love Peace Concert of 1978, Tosh publicly accused Jamaica’s political leaders and the middle class of backing police brutality and politically charged gang warfare amid a legendary 20-minute diatribe. The Jamaican media severely criticized Tosh for the speech, delivered to an audience that included 200 foreign journalists and the prime minister.

For his uncompromising views and his insistence on openly smoking marijuana, the Rastafarian musician was severely beaten by police on several occasions, sustaining 32 stitches in his head, a broken rib, a fractured arm, and a punctured spleen during these altercations, according to former manager Herbie Miller.

For Miller, who is also curator of the Jamaica Music Museum, the honor for the former Wailer was a long time coming. He lobbied Jamaican administrations for years to formally recognize Tosh’s accomplishments.

“When you are about truth and rights and bucking the system, government recognition comes after a long wait,” Miller said Monday.

Roger Steffens, a noted reggae historian who interviewed Tosh on several occasions, said the musician believed that awards from “Babylon” – the Rastafarian religion’s unflattering term for the Western world and the inadequate realities of life – were meaningless to him during his lifetime.

Like Marley, Tosh “believed that ‘Babylon have no fruits’ and awards from the oppressors were meaningless. Whether the past 25 years would have mellowed (him), or made him even more unyieldingly militant, is difficult to predict,” said Steffens, who described Tosh as the “Malcom X of reggae.”

But for his family, the Monday ceremony was a big deal. Andrew Tosh, a veteran reggae musician who was 20 when his father was killed, said the award will help keep his musical and cultural legacy alive.

“I’m feeling really good that he’s finally getting honored,” said the younger Tosh.

With the Wailers, Tosh co-wrote the black power anthem “Get Up, Stand Up” and penned songs like “400 Years,” a scathing song about slavery. After he left the group in 1973, just as the Wailers’ album “Catch a Fire” was winning reggae a global audience, Tosh formed his own band – Word, Sound and Power – and wrote more songs filled with political content. “Mama Africa” denounced apartheid in South Africa; “Legalize It” called for the legalization of marijuana.

Receiving lesser government awards on Monday were reggae luminaries Toots Hibbert, Lee “Scratch Perry, and Tosh’s former Wailers bandmate Bunny Livingston.
