Margaret Thatcher’s Funeral In London

LONDON — The United Kingdom was steeling itself to say a final formal farewell to the Iron Lady, the former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher who presided over the nation during a period of huge economic and social change from 1979 to 1990. Thatcher’s funeral is being held in London today.

A massive security operation is underway by Scotland Yard on the streets of London as Thatcher’s coffin will soon be carried in a horse-drawn gun carriage from the Royal Air Force chapel of St Clement Danes on the Strand to St Paul’s Cathedral, a journey of just over a mile through the heart of the capital.

The route will be lined by hundreds of military personnel from the three armed forces. After departing St Clement Danes, the procession will travel along Fleet Street and up Ludgate Hill. Her coffin will be draped in the Union Flag. It is scheduled to take 19 minutes.

At Thatcher’s request, military units with a connection to the 1982 Falklands War will be heavily represented.

After Thatcher’s coffin reaches St Paul’s, it will be carried up the steps of the cathedral to be met by over 2,000 dignitaries, friends, ex-colleagues and family members. The service at St Paul’s is due to start at 11 a.m. local time.

The Queen and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, will be among those attending the funeral.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney and former secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger are also expected to be present at the service. George Shultz and James Baker will represent President Obama’s official delegation.

Former Prime Minister Tony Blair will attend, as will F.W. de Klerk, the former president of South Africa.

Some 4,000 police will be deployed in central London amid heightened security concerns in the wake of the Boston Marathon bombings this week, and ahead of the London Marathon on Sunday when over 36,000 runners will take to the city’s streets.

Frank And Nancy Sinatra – Something Stupid

Frank And Nancy Sinatra – Something Stupid

Frank And Nancy Sinatra Something Stupid

Francis Albert Sinatra was the only child of two Italian immigrants. His father was Anthony Sinatra, a New York fireman of Sicilian origin, and his mother was Natalie Garavanta, who was usually called by her middle name, Dolly.

Sinatra’s mother was often called “Hatpin Dolly”, and was well known for her fiery volatile Ligurian personality. Sinatra’s parents had both emigrated from mainland Italy to America in the 1890s, and the family enjoyed a reasonable standard of living, thanks to Anthony’s secure job in the Fire Department, as well as his mother’s political connections with the Democratic Party in Hoboken. Dolly was a local political ward boss, as well as working as a midwife.

Young Sinatra enjoyed a stable, comfortable upbringing and he was keen to enlist for the armed services during World War II, following the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. But when he attempted to sign up at the age of 26, he went for a medical check-up and was pronounced unfit for active service, owing to a punctured eardrum that he’d sustained at birth. It’s likely that Sinatra’s failure to enlist caused him to place even greater emphasis on his emerging career as an entertainer.

Sinatra had already embarked on his performing career, thanks to the help of his mother, who had found work for him singing in a group called The Three Flashes. One of his first engagements was at the Hoboken Union Club, and it was here, in 1935, that he got his first “big break”. The Three Flashes were approached by talent scout Edward “Major” Bowes, who then offered Sinatra work performing in a number of promotional films for his series, ‘Amateur Hour’.

In September 1935, Sinatra took part in a talent contest organized by Edward Bowes, and won first prize: this led to a national tour. When the tour was over, Sinatra took a job as a singing waiter and MC at a venue called the Rustic Cabin. The pay was only $15 per week, but the Rustic Cabin gigs were also broadcast across New York on the WNEW radio station. Sinatra’s voice was now being heard by a far wider audience than before. In 1939, the wife of bandleader and trumpet player Harry James heard Sinatra singing on the radio, and persuaded her husband to give Sinatra a job. Harry hired Sinatra for the princely sum of $75 per week, and the two artists made their first joint recording in July 1939, as war was looming in Europe.

Working with Harry James was great experience for Sinatra, despite the fact that the band never made the big time. Sinatra and Harry recorded ten songs together. Shortly afterwards, Sinatra was offered a job with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, where he began to make his mark as a ballad singer. His first (and biggest) hit with his new band was the 1940s smash, ‘I’ll Never Smile Again’, which was also, by coincidence, the first ever Number One on Billboard magazine’s brand-new chart of America’s best-selling records. Sinatra’s gentle charisma and easy-listening crooning style made him an instant hit with the nation’s millions of teenage girls, known at the time as “bobby-soxers”, and his records began to sell in vast quantities.   Read More: thebiographychannel.co.uk

Boston Marathon Bombing

The aftermath of the Boston Marathon explosions.

Boston Marathon Bombing

At least 3 dead, 141 injured in Boston Marathon blasts.

BOSTON — Two explosions ripped through the Boston Marathon’s crowded finish line Monday afternoon, killing at least three people and injuring more than 141.

The dead included an 8-year-old boy, The Boston Globe reported, citing law enforcement sources briefed on the investigation. Among the injured, 17 were reported in critical condition. The victims at eight local hospitals were as young as 2.

“There were so many people in that area that they couldn’t get ambulances in there,” said Joe Difazio, who was working on communications near the site when the blasts occurred. “They were wheeling people out in wheelchairs. One guy had no legs. The bones was just sticking out. … It was horrible.”

WBZ-TV reported Monday night that police were searching an apartment in Revere, a suburb, as part of the investigation into the blasts. Massachusetts State Police confirmed that a search warrant was served but provided no further details, Associated Press said.

Set off at one of the world’s premiere sporting events, the blasts ignited a fresh round of unease and renewed security concerns across the nation. The stark pictures of mayhem and the injured sent over TV and the Internet also rekindled stark memories from the 9/11 terrorist attacks on New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Monday’s attacks also come just four days before the anniversary of the April 19, 1995, bomb attack on Oklahoma City’s Murrah Federal Building.

The Boston Marathon blasts occurred about 12 seconds and 100 yards apart at about 2:50 p.m., three hours after Ethiopia’s Lelisa Desisa won the 26.2-mile race.

Police searched widely for other explosive devices, and two law enforcement officials said no other explosive devices had been found. The officials said that as many as seven suspicious packages were destroyed in controlled explosions but they were later found not to be actual bombs. The law enforcement officials who have been briefed on the matter were not authorized to comment publicly.

Authorities also issued a bulletin for a unidentified man who was seen running from a restricted area. It was unclear, according to the federal official, whether the person was anything other than a witness.

The state, local and federal investigation into the bombings is being led by the FBI. Special Agent Rick Deslauriers said investigators were looking at possible terrorism, but he refused comment on specific suspects or leads in the case.  Read More USA Today

Chaka Demus & Pliers – Tease Me

Chaka Demus & Pliers Tease Me

Chaka Demus & Pliers Tease Me

John Taylor (born April 16, 1963 in West Kingston), better known as Chaka Demus, is a Jamaican reggae musician and DJ, best known as part of the duo Chaka Demus & Pliers.

Early Years

Taylor was a regular attendee at Kingston dances and was given a chance by Prince Jammy to DJ on his sound system.  Upon releasing his debut single, the Jammy-produced “Increase Your Knowledge” in 1985, he was virtually unknown and none of his early records saw chart success, but would later become huge hits. Other musicians quickly recognised him as having great potential, most notably Yellowman who joined him for such songs as “Everybody Loves Chaka”, “Scotty”, and “Bring It To Me” and Admiral Bailey, who collaborated with him on “One Scotch, One Bourbon, One Beer”, giving him his first hit.  After minor success, he moved to the Penthouse Records label where he recorded the single “Chaka on the Move” but switched back to Jammy’s the following year where he paired up with Shabba Ranks for the Rough & Rugged album. The same year saw the release of “Everybody Loves Chaka”, for the Scorpio label, which was then followed up by the 1989 album, The Original Chaka’ ‘Watch me Ride’

Mainstream Success

He first met Pliers (Everton Bonner) in 1991 and suggested that they team up. They enjoyed an internationally successful partnership including a string of hit singles and a number one album in the UK between 1993 and 1997.

In 2007, Chaka Demus & Pliers reunited to record a track called “Need Your Lovin” which was released on vinyl, on Explorer Records. On November 18, 2007, Chaka Demus & Pliers performed “Murder She Wrote” alongside Alicia Keys at the 2007 American Music Awards. Their subsequent album, “So Proud”, was released in Europe and the Middle east in October 2008. A solo album, called DJ Spirit was released in 2008.

Chaka Demus now runs his own record label, Bright Star, on which he has released records by his son, known by his stage name of Marvellous. He continues to perform with Pliers, and recorded a new album in 2012, featuring guest appearances from Pliers, Marvellous, and Freddie McGregor.  Source wikipedia

WordPress, Joomla Users Victims of ‘Brute Force’ Attack By Botnet

WordPress, Joomla Users Victims of ‘Brute Force’ Attack By Botnet

The ongoing botnet attack against poorly-secured WordPress-run sites reinforces the need for strong passwords, security experts say.

A network of more than 90,000 IP addresses is responsible for an ongoing “brute force” attack against sites and blogs using the WordPress’ default username ‘admin.’ Some Joomla users have also been hit. The campaign first came to light late last week and picked up steam over the weekend.

Online security firm Sucuri is reporting a significant rise in the number of such attacks.

The company’s data showed an average of 30,000 to 40,000 blocked attacks per day from last December through March. In April, hacking attempts spiked to more than 77,000 per day and reached more than 100,000 in the past few days.

According to Sophos security expert Paul Ducklin the online assault is known as a dictionary attack, a method in which the hacker tries the most common usernames and passwords in quick succession to breach accounts.

“The idea is simple: automate the password guessing, speed up the attack, and don’t spend too long on any individual site,” Ducklin wrote on the Sophos blog. “Look for the low-hanging fruit, and harvest it as quickly as you can; if you can’t get in within a few hundred or thousand attempts, move on to the next potential victim. It’s doorknob rattling, but on an industrial and international scale.”

Sucuri CTO Daniel Cid posted a list of the top user names being attempted: admin, test, administrator, Admin and root. The username admin is by far the most popular attempt, he added. In fact, it is tried 60 times more often than any of the other common user names.

“In these cases, by the shear fact of having a non- admin / administrator / root usernames you are automatically out of the running,” Cid said.

The most common passwords being attempted are: admin, 123456, 12345, !@#%^, 123321, qwerty, 12345678, 1234, 123123, password, 666666, 121212 and pass.

Sophos image

Sophos image

Founding developer of WordPress Matt Mullenweg recommends anyone who uses admin as his or her username change it immediately and implement a strong password.

“If you’re on WP.com turn on two-factor authentication, and of course make sure you’re up-to-date on the latest version of WordPress,” Mullenweg wrote in a blog post.  “Do this and you’ll be ahead of 99 percent of sites out there and probably never have a problem.”

Password-guessing attacks such as these are common, Ducklin said.

In this case, the attack volume “has been sufficient to attract global attention, which is a good thing, but it’s currently thought to be only about three times the usual level,” he said.

“In other words, even when ‘normal service’ is resumed, we’ll all still be firmly in the sights of the cybercriminals, so take this as a spur to action.”

Online security provider CloudFlare is warning that attacks such as this could spell trouble in the future.

CloudFlare CEO and co-founder Matthew Prince said the attacker is using “a relatively weak botnet of home PCs” to construct a significantly larger botnet “of beefy servers in preparation for a future attack.”

“These larger machines can cause much more damage in DDoS attacks because the servers have large network connections and are capable of generating significant amounts of traffic,” he wrote in a blog post. “This is a similar tactic that was used to build the so-called itsoknoproblembro/Brobot botnet which, in the fall of 2012, was behind the large attacks on U.S. financial institutions.”

Things that make you go hmmm 2

Beautiful Rose

Things that make you go hmmm 2

Never sacrifice who you are just because someone has a problem with it.

Do not give up. The beginning is always the hardest.

Speak the truth, even if your voice shakes.

We never really grow up. We only know how to act in public.

The happiest people don’t have the best of everything, they just make the best of everything.

When you have to make a hard decision. Flip a coin. Why? Because when the coin is in the air you suddenly know what you’re hoping for.

If you want to make your dreams come true the first thing you have to do is WAKE UP!

Judging a person does not define who they are. It defines who you are.

Sometimes you need to step outside, get some air, and remind yourself of who you are and who you want to be.

Apologizing does not mean you are wrong and the other person is right. It just means you value your relationship more than your ego.

GO at least once a year to a place you have never been before.

It is a risk to Love. What if it doesn’t work out?  Ah but what if it does.

Love Hearts

Remind yourself that it’s OK not to be perfect.

Always laugh when you can.  It’s cheap medicine.

I think we like to complicate things when it is really quite simple: Find what it it that makes you happy and who it is that makes you happy and your set. Promise.

In 20 years you will be more disappointed by what you didn’t do than by what you did.

A ship in a port is safe BUT that’s not what ships are built for.

Be so happy that when others look at you they become happy too.

Remember – Keep Smiling!

It makes people wonder what you’re up to!
