It’s hard to get tech support 400 kilometers away from the Earth, which is why Keith Chuvala of United Space Alliance, a NASA contractor deeply involved in Space Shuttle and International Space Station (ISS) operations, decided to migrate to Linux. As leader of the Laptops and Network Integration Teams, Chuvala oversees the developers in charge of writing and integrating software for the Station’s “OpsLAN” – a network of laptops that provide the ISS crew with vital capabilities for day-to-day operations, from telling the astronauts where they are, to inventory control of the equipment used, to interfacing with the cameras that capture photos and videos.

“We migrated key functions from Windows to Linux because we needed an operating system that was stable and reliable – one that would give us in-house control. So if we needed to patch, adjust or adapt, we could.” With the transition to Linux looming, Chuvala turned to the Linux Foundation’s Linux training program for help.

Expert training produces seamless Linux migration

With a goal of getting his team up to speed on developing applications in Linux, Chuvala was looking for solid training that would address various skill levels. The Linux Foundation’s training staff arranged two courses geared specifically for the USA/NASA team’s needs: Introduction to Linux for Developers and Developing Applications For Linux. Both training sessions were adapted to provide tailored instruction for the diverse group.

Dominic Duval, the Director of Enterprise Training, was able to leverage the group’s mixed backgrounds, augment their existing knowledge with Linux-specific skills, and prepare them for developing apps related specifically to the needs of the ISS. Chuvala was extremely pleased with the expertise and flexibility Duval provided the team. “Initially, I was worried about some of our real techie guys getting ‘bored,’” said Chuvala. “But that was not the case at all. Likewise, the new people were sufficiently challenged.”

Singer and songwriter Pink, born Alecia Beth Moore, is best known for her edgy pop music. She gained stardom in the 2002 Moulin Rouge soundtrack with Christina Aguilera. Some claim that Pink has changed the scope of pop music and paved the way for artists like Katy Perry and Lady Gaga but has received little recognition for it. She is a prominent animal-rights campaigner for PETA.

Early Life

Singer, songwriter. Born Alecia Beth Moore on September 8, 1979, in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. Pink, as she’s otherwise known, gets her name from the movie Reservoir Dogs, a film she saw as a teenager and whose character Mr. Pink is someone her friends all agreed she resembled.

Pink was the second child born to Jim and Judy Moore. She experienced a largely typical middle-class life in a suburb of Doylestown, Philadelphia. Her parents’ tense relationship, however, caused the couple to divorce when Pink was 3. Their split and the subsequent demise of the marriage sparked, in part, a rebellious attitude from Pink. “I was never allowed to go over to any of my friends’ houses when I was little, because I was a bad influence,” she said of her early life. “None of their parents liked me and my own parents were scared to death of me— and for me.”

Instead, Pink found solace in music, and as early as the age of 13 she was navigating the complicated Philly club scene. By the time she was 14, she was already an experienced vocalist and dancer, and started to write her own songs. She also had a regular singing gig every Friday night at a Philly nightclub. But it proved to be a hard life for her to manage, as she was swallowed by a world of drugs (she nearly overdosed at the age of 15) and petty crime. She eventually dropped out of high school before returning to earn her G.E.D. in 1998.

The Harlem Shake (original army edition) is an Internet meme in the form of a video in which a group of people performs a comedy sketch accompanied by a short excerpt from the song “Harlem Shake”.
As a meme, the video was replicated by many people, using the same concept, and this rapidly led to it becoming viral in early February 2013, with thousands of “Harlem Shake” videos being made and uploaded to YouTube every day at the height of its popularity.
The form of the meme was established in a video uploaded on February 2 by five teenagers from Queensland, Australia known on YouTube as The Sunny Coast Skate.
The video started a viral trend of people uploading their own “Harlem Shake” videos to YouTube.
The teenagers’ video was a follow-up to a video by a YouTube comedy vlogger named Filthy Frank
which featured a section where several costumed people danced to the song “Harlem Shake” by Baauer.

Origins

Today’s Jack Russell Terrier is a descendant of the fox hunting terriers bred in England by the Reverend Jack Russell in the mid 1800s. As an avid sportsman, Rev. Russell had his own pack of hounds, however, his wish was for a smaller, agile dog that could keep up with the pack, and have the smarts to outfox foxes. Intent on making his vision come true, Rev. Russell began his breeding program with a small tan and white terrier bitch called Trump, who went on to become a legend in the Jack Russell lineage – her portrait still hangs today at the British Royal Family’s Sandringham estate.

Personality, characteristics and temperament

Intelligent, athletic, fearless, vocal, bold, plucky, spirited, active, alert, confident, tough, charming, friendly, outgoing, cheerful, brave, eager, and tenacious: these are some of the adjectives used to describe the Jack Russell Terrier.

Justin Randall Timberlake was born on January 31, 1981, in Memphis, Tennessee. Raised a Baptist, Timberlake grew up singing in the church choir. From 1993 to 1995, he performed on The New Mickey Mouse Club, along with pop stars Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and JC Chasez. Afterward, Timberlake and Chasez, along with Lance Bass, Joey Fatone and Chris Kirkpatrick, formed the all-male singing group ‘N Sync. The boy band would go on to become one of the hottest pop groups of the 1990s, releasing No Strings Attached in 2000 and Celebrity in 2001.

Solo Career
In 2002, Timberlake decided to pursue a solo career, debuting with the hit song “Like I Love You.” Later that year, he released his first solo album, Justified, which sold over 7 million copies worldwide. He received two Grammy Awards in 2004 for Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. The wins came on the heels of a controversial Super Bowl performance with Janet Jackson in which Timberlake accidentally tore off a portion of Jackson’s costume revealing her bare breast.

Successful Collaborations
As a solo artist, Timberlake has often collaborated with the Black Eyed Peas, receiving an Grammy nomination with the band for “Where Is The Love?” He has also worked with Nelly, Snoop Dogg and Nelly Furtado and started his own record company, JayTee Records, in 2005. The following year, he released his second solo album, FutureSex/LoveSounds, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart. The album’s lead single, “SexyBack”, spent several consecutive weeks at No. 1. In 2008, Timberlake helped make Madonna’s single, 4 Minutes”, a top ten hit. Not only did he provide some of the vocals, he was also a co-writer of the song. Timberlake also contributed to several other tracks on Madonna’s Hard Candyalbum.

How to Train a Dog to Speak

Short, positive training sessions will serve best when you teach your dog to obey various commands. Some examples of commands are “sit,” “stay” and “speak.” The “speak” command teaches a dog to bark once or twice in response to your verbal cue. Training not only provides mental stimulation for your dog but gives you more control over his behavior. You can combine commands to teach more complicated tricks or tasks, such as “quiet” or “hush” for noisy dogs, after they first understand the command to speak. Use reward-based clicker-training techniques to train your dog to vocalize on your command.
STEP 1

Train your dog to associate the sound of a clicker to a reward, using a dog treat. In short, 5- to 10-minute sessions each day, click a training device and give your dog a treat. Wait a minute or so between each click and treat. Continue this training until your dog expects a reward after hearing a click.

STEP 2

Say the verbal cue, “speak,” then trigger your dog to bark by waving a favorite toy in front of the dog’s face but not allowing him to obtain it. Other ways to trigger your dog to bark is by knocking on a wall or door, or by withholding a treat from the dog. Once the dog barks, click the device and give your dog a treat.

STEP 3

Train your dog for five to 10 minutes with the clicker and treats each day until he responds to the verbal command to speak by giving you at least one bark without your having to provoke him to bark with anything other than the verbal “speak” command.

STEP 4

Teach your dog the “quiet” command to limit the amount of time your dog barks after being given the “speak” command. This further specifies the “speak” command to just a couple barks instead of constant barking for a longer amount of time. Give the dog the command to “speak” triggering him to bark, but don’t treat him. Say “quiet” and wait until he is quiet for a few seconds before clicking and treating him. Continue this training giving the commands “speak” and “quiet” during each training session.

HISTORY and BIOGRAPHY

The Gipsy Kings consist of two bands of brothers: the Reyes (Nicolas, Canut, Paul, Patchai, Andre) and the Baliardos (Tonino, Paco, Diego). The Reyes and Baliardo boys were the offspring of Spanish gypsy families that had fled into France to escape Spain’s Civil War. They grew up roaming the south of France, working harvests and making music.

Jose Reyes father of the GK Reyes sang alongside guitarist Manitas de Plata and did much to popularise flamenco internationally: John Steinbeck, Charlie Chaplin, Pablo Picasso, Miles Davis and Salvador Dali were amongst the duos admirers Jose split from Manitas in the 1970s and formed Los Reyes with his teenage sons. His death devastated the Reyes yet lead to their fortuitous encounter with the Baliardos at the St. Marie de la Mer Gitan pilgrimage. On that warm night, as they passed the guitar, shared songs and wine, history was shaped.
Initially, the Reyes and Baliardos busked on the streets of Cannes, played weddings and parties, young men flavouring flamenco with Western pop and Latin rhythms. When an American admirer told the band their name Los Reyes meant “The Kings” in English they realised they were born to be Gipsy Kings. In 1987 The Gipsy Kings self-titled debut album introduced the world to rumba Gitano the sound of South America rumba rhythm married to flamenco guitars and with Bamboleo the Gipsy Kings scored a huge international hit. Since then the Kings have never stopped singing to the world.
Today the Gipsy Kings still live with their families in the south of France. Life may have changed for them they no longer busk on streets or pick crops when times are hard or travel in caravans but still, at heart, they remain Gypsies, the proud descendants of an ancient people who seduced the world with music and dance. On Pasajero, the Gipsy Kings continue their epic musical journey.
