Star Treck Voyager – Seven of Nine

Star Treck Voyager – Seven of Nine

Star Treck Voyager - 7 of 9

Jeri Ryan was born in Munich, the daughter of an Army officer then stationed in West Germany.  A self-admitted “Army brat,” Ryan grew up on bases all over the U.S. until the family finally put down roots in Paducah, Kentucky.  After graduating from high school in Kentucky, Ryan, a National Merit Scholar, traveled to Chicago to attend Northwestern University, ultimately obtaining a BS in theater.  While in Illinois, she entered and won several beauty pageants to help pay her way through school; she placed fourth as “Miss Illinois” in 1990’s Miss America pageant.  From Illinois, Ryan moved to Los Angeles, where she quickly began finding work in television.
Her first TV appearance was in an episode of Who’s the Boss? in 1991; she would appear on five other series that same year, setting the hectic pace for the next five years.  After appearing in several TV movies and doing guest shots on shows like MatlockMurder, She WroteMelrose Place, and Diagnosis Murder, Ryan was cast as a regular in the science fiction series Dark Skies.  That series came to a close just as Ryan was invited to join the cast of Star Trek: Voyager as the extremely memorable Seven of Nine.

Star Treck Voyager - Seven of Nine

By the time that series ended, Ryan was much in demand.  Producer David E. Kelley tapped her to play a lawyer-turned-high-school-teacher in his show Boston Public.  A few years later, after taking on recurring roles in Two and a Half MenThe O.C., and Boston Legal, Ryan was once again a lawyer, as L.A. district attorney in the James Woods starrer Shark. This past year she juggled recurring roles on two different series:  a con artist in Leverage and yet another attorney in Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.  In Ryan’s upcoming series Body of Proof, the actress will have the opportunity to practice medicine rather than law.  She’ll co-star with Dana Delany when the show debuts Fall, 2010.  When Ryan isn’t appearing onscreen, you’ll likely find her at Ortolan, the Los Angeles restaurant she co-owns with her husband, renowned French chef Christophe Eme.

NCIS Gibbs – Mark Harmon

NCIS Gibbs – Mark Harmon

NCIS Gibbs - Mark Harmon

Born on September 2, 1951, in Burbank, California, actor Thomas Mark Harmon faced some challenges growing up. His father, Tom Harmon, worked as a sports broadcaster. This meant that he often traveled, leaving his wife Elyse Knox, a former actress, to look after the couple’s three children. Mark deeply felt his father’s absence. Even when his father was home, their relationship was not easy. “He raised me hard, and when I say hard, I mean hard. I was taught to fight for everything,” Harmon told People magazine.

Graduating with a degree in communications in 1974, Harmon turned down offers of up to $40,000 to train as a pro in order to try law school. He then left the law to work for an advertising agency. This also dissatisfied Harmon, who then took a job selling shoes to athletes. Feeling unfulfilled, Harmon decided to try his hand at more acting roles.

TV producer Don Bellisario saw Harmon’s work on The West Wing and thought he would be a great fit for his next project. He needed to cast the lead investigator, Leroy Jethro Gibbs, in the military crime procedural NCIS. “What I saw was a very controlled presence, a quiet strength. That’s what I was looking for. Leroy is Mark’s kind of guy. Mark has that jock mentality—you tough it out no matter how tough it is,” Bellisario told Entertainment Weekly.

Originally called Navy NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service, NCISdebuted in 2003 and soon built up a strong following. It was developed as a spin-off from the popular Navy legal series JAG starring David James Elliott and Catherine Bell. In addition to Harmon’s Special Agent Gibbs, the NCISteam includes Agent Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly), Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), Dr. Donald “Ducky” Mallard (David McCallum) and Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette).

On the series, Harmon has been able to display his abilities as an actor, ranging from light comedy to serious drama. Harmon says the character “can be really good at his job … but so much of his life is really tormented and dark, and I don’t know if he’ll ever recover from it. I think he would be an uncomfortable guy to have dinner with.”

In 2007, Harmon and Bellisario had a dispute about how the show was being run. There was some issues over the actors getting their scripts late and Harmon complained to the network. Bellisario was replaced and a new show-runner was brought in. “This is a hard enough thing to do when everything is going right. We’ve made changes, and we’re better organized now,” Harmon explained to USA Today.

Three years later, audiences remain enthralled with Harmon’s character, and with the show. NCIS averages more than 20 million viewers each week, making it one of TV’s most popular programs.

Off-screen, Harmon seems to be an easy-going, down-to-earth person. He is known by his colleagues for his dedication, sense of humor, and lack of pretension. “He’s one of those guys who makes you say, ‘They don’t make them like that anymore,'” his wife Pam explained to In Style magazine.

NCIS Abby Sciuto - Pauley Perrette
Actress, musician and activist Pauley Perette is best known for her role as a forensic scientist on the crime drama ‘NCIS.’

Actress Pauley Perette initially intended to pursue a career in criminology, earning a masters degree at Valdosta State College. Her first big break came in 1996 with a recurring role on the legal drama Murder One. She found her greatest success as Abby Sciuto, a forensic scientist on the crime drama NCIS.  Perette is also a musician and runs her own independent music label.

Actress, writer and singer Pauley Perrette was born on March 27, 1969, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Perrette moved around a lot as a child because of her father’s job. The family lived in 14 different places, mostly in the southern United States. Perrette spent most of her teenage years in the Atlanta area, where she spent the majority of her time buried in books — particularly science textbooks.

After Perrette graduated from Crestwood High School, she began exploring her interests in science and criminology at Valdosta State College. She later earned a master’s degree in criminology, and would have been a police officer or a federal agent if she had not discovered acting. Moving to New York City, Perrette worked as a bartender for a time, and a co-worker introduced her to a director. “I walked into this guy’s office and was like, ‘I was thinking maybe I could make $3,000.’ And he hired me for commercials, short films, like 15 jobs in a row,” Perrette told Entertainment Weekly. Her first big break came in 1996 with a recurring role on the legal drama Murder One. Two years later, she landed her first starring role on the short-lived sitcom That’s Life. Perrette tried again for television stardom with a part on 1999’s Time of Your Life, a spin-off from the popular family drama Party of Five. Set in New York City, the show featured Jennifer Love Hewitt as a new arrival to the city, and Perrette played a building manager who befriends her. Only 12 episodes aired before the series was canceled. On the big screen, Perrette landed small parts in such films as Almost Famous (2000) and The Ring (2002).

She found her greatest success, however, on the small screen in 2003. That year, Perrette debuted as Abby Sciuto, an offbeat-yet-perky forensic scientist known for her tattoos and goth fashion sense, on the crime drama NCIS. Her character works with a team of Navy investigators led by Leroy Jethro Gibbs (played by Mark Harmon). The show developed a huge following, and Perrette emerged as a fan favorite. For a time, Perrette showcased some of her other creative talents by writing a blog for the show, as well as creating her own blog. She stopped blogging in 2007, however, after she was stalked by a fan.Music is another passion for Perrette.

She was the lead singer for the punk band Lo-Ball. Working under the name Stop Making Friends, Perrette contributed a song, “Fear”, to the first volume of the NCIS soundtrack. In addition to songwriting and performing, she runs her own independent music label, Go Records.A dedicated activist, Perrette supports a number of causes and charities, including Save the Children and Habitat for Humanity. She lives in Los Angeles with her second husband Michael Bosman. The couple wed on Valentine’s Day in 2009. Perrette was previously married to indie rocker Coyote Shivers.

Asher Keddie Reveals Battle with Shyness

Asher Keddie Reveals Battle with Shyness

Food Pyramid

If Asher Keddie could go back in time and give her teenage self some advice it would be, “Don’t wait too long to be brave”.

The WA-raised actor has a string of major awards to her name, but in an interview with InStyle Magazine confesses she has battled a lack of confidence her whole life.

The 38-year-old said it was part of the reason she was a relative late bloomer on the scene.

“I was shy and struggling with it,” the Gold Logie winner tells the magazine, which is out tomorrow. “When you are lacking in confidence, the last thing you want to do is perform.”

Keddie, who is photographed for the interview in glamorous designs by Christian Dior and Gucci, says a lack of confidence is common among actors.

“As an actor you have to be vulnerable or you’re just not going to cut it,” she said.

“Instead of fighting that vulnerability, you have to find a way of embracing it but without false confidence. I like that challenge, but struggle with it. It’s the juxtaposition of wanting to communicate a message and also wanting to not be looked at.”

The notoriously private star also opens up about her new relationship with artist Vincent Fantauzzo, a man she describes as “pretty wonderful”.

But she says they aren’t thinking about marriage. “I like the thrill of not knowing what’s happening,” Keddie said.

“I like the surprise in life across the board.”

Keddie also says she will play the neurotic Nina Proudman in a fifth season of Offspring.

Jason Mamoa

Jason Mamoa

Jason Mamoa

Jason Momoa was born in Honolulu on August 1, 1979, and as a child moved to Norwalk, Iowa, where he was raised by his mother. After graduating from high school, Momoa moved back to Hawaii and enrolled at the University of Hawaii. But his life would soon take a fateful turn when he was discovered by Takeo, an international fashion designer—an event that led to the start of Momoa’s modeling career.

His good looks and carved physique brought him quick success, and in 1999, Momoa won Hawaii’s Model of the Year and walked the runway for Louis Vuitton at the Governor’s Fashion Show.

Momoa soon turned his sights to acting, and in 1999 he tried out for a lead role on the international smash TV show Baywatch (known at this point, the show’s 10th season, as Baywatch Hawaii). He beat out 1,000 other actors for the role of Jason Ioane, a part that he played for a couple of seasons. The show ended in 2001, and Momoa spent some time traveling the world, notably visiting Tibet, where he discovered Buddhism.

Momoa eventually moved to Los Angeles to further pursue an acting career. The first roles he landed, Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding (2003) and Tempted(2003), both TV movies, kept his face on the screen until his next series gig,North Shore, came along in 2004. North Shore ran for 20 episodes, but when it ended something even better was waiting for Momoa: Stargate: Atlantis.

Playing Ronan Dex on the popular sci-fi series, Momoa appeared in several seasons, reaching the next stage of stardom along the way. Also during this period, Momoa was involved in an altercation in a Los Angeles bar, in which another patron smashed a glass across the 6’5”, 225-lb. actor’s face, resulting in 140 stitches and a scar above his left eye. The scar would become something of a signature afterward, and it played well into Momoa’s next role, which would take his career to the next level.

In April 2011, HBO began airing a new drama, Game of Thrones, and Momoa appeared in the plumb role of Khal Drogo, a barbarian leader of a tribe called the Dothraki. The show became an instant smash hit, and Momoa’s violent and eventually nuanced Khal brought a whole new crop of fans to the actor’s doorstep.

Growing up, Momoa was a big fan of the Conan the Barbarian stories, and he also got to star as the title character in the Hollywood big-screen reboot, released a few months after Game of Thrones. Momoa has since appeared inBullet to the Head (2012) and Road to Paloma (2014; which Momoa also directed and co-wrote). He currently has several films in production as well, including Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice. And Momoa has continued with television work, starring in the ensemble cast of the Sundance Channel drama The Red Road, which premiered in March 2014.

Moma married actress Lisa Bonet in 2007. The couple have two children together, daughter Lola Iolani Momoa and son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. Bonet has a daughter Zoë Isabella with former husband Lenny Kravitz.

Why don’t you do right – Jessica Rabbit

Why don’t you do right – Jessica Rabbit

Jessica Rabbit - Why don't you do right

Jessica Rabbit is Roger Rabbit‘s human Toon wife and the tritagonist in Touchstone’s 1988 film Who Framed Roger Rabbit. In the book, she was an amoral, up-and-coming star and former comic character, over whom her estranged husband, comic strip star Roger Rabbit, obsessed. She is re-imagined in the film as a sultry, but moral cartoon singer at a Los Angeles supper club called the “Ink and Paint Club”. Here, she is one of several suspects in the framing of her husband, who is a famous cartoon star. She is voiced byKathleen Turner. Amy Irving was cast to sing Peggy Lee’s “Why Don’t You Do Right” for Jessica’s first scene in the movie.

Several attractive Toon females (specifically Betty Boop) apparently consider Jessica to be incredibly lucky to be married to Roger.

Jessica Rabbit is beautiful, passionate, sexy and glamourous. She is slender and fair-skinned. She has blue eyes, red pouty lips, purple eyelids, long red hair that covers her right eye, aqua earrings, long purple opera gloves, and shiny red pumps. She claims to Eddie Valiant, “I’m not bad, I’m just drawn that way.” She adores her husband Roger, and claims she married him because he “makes her laugh.”

Jessica is first seen from behind the stage curtains at the Ink & Paint Club, singing “Why Don’t You Do Right?” After her show, followed by Eddie Valiant, the Toon-hating detective, Marvin Acme, both ruler of Toontown and founder of the Acme Corporation, enters Jessica Rabbit’s dressing room and informs her that she sure absolutely, truly, and honestly murdered the audience one night, and he really means it. Then, he says that she was superb while Eddie tries to peer through the keyhole to see what’s going on, but he was thrown outside into a pile of trash by Bongo the tuxedoed gorrila. When he hears Jessica and Marvin talking through one of the nearby windows, he pulls up a box and peers through a gap in the curtains. Marvin insists Jessica to play pattycake with him on her bed, but Jessica replies that she has a headache. However, Marvin says that she promised, then convinces her to do it, and she agrees, but she tells him to take off his handbuzzer. While they play pattycake together, Eddie pulls out a camera and takes several pictures by order of R.K. Maroon, owner of Maroon Cartoons. Later, after Roger Rabbit, Jessica’s husband, crashes through the studio office window, leaving a rabbit-shaped hole in the glass and the blinds, and walks across the road at the Acme factory, crying his eyes out, he pulls out his wallet and looks at his photos of him and Jessica on their wedding day, their honeymoon on a beach, and hugging each other in a bar.

Jean-Luc Picard – Patrick Stewart

Jean-Luc Picard – Patrick Stewart

Jean-Luc Picard - Patrick Stewart

Sir Patrick Stewart was born in Mirfield, Yorkshire, on July 13, 1940. His father was a career soldier; his mother worked in industrial weaving. Because Mirfield, a river valley settlement of some 12,000 people, had a rich culture for a provincial town of its size, Stewart’s stage experience started early. His involvement was encouraged when, at the age of twelve while in secondary school, he enrolled in an eight-day drama course, where he met some professional people who were very influential in his life.

Thereafter, his participation in local amateur dramatics increased steadily, even after he quit school at fifteen to work as a reporter. However, his employer resented his dedication to the local theater and finally, after a little more than a year of Stewart’s less than dedicated reporting, he issued Stewart an ultimatum forcing him to choose between acting and journalism. Although it was a very good job, Stewart quit and, out of spite, became determined to prove himself as a professional actor.

To save money for training, he worked for a year as a furniture salesman; then, after consulting the professionals he had met, he enrolled in the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in 1957 at age seventeen. He spent two years there, learning his craft and losing his accent. Stewart speaks of almost living a “double life” during this period, for while he spoke with Received Pronunciation professionally, he continued speaking with his native Yorkshire accent and dialect with family and friends.

After leaving school, Stewart was never out of work, despite a warning from an instructor who told him that his baldness would make him a young character actor rather than a juvenile lead. In fact, Stewart was able to land jobs by convincing directors that with a toupee he could play both, doubling his range and serving as “two actors for the price of one.” His professional stage debut was at the Theatre Royal, Lincoln, in August of 1959, playing Morgan in a stage adaptation of Treasure Island.

Now an internationally respected actor known for successfully bridging the gap between the theatrical world of the Shakespearean stage and contemporary film and television, Sir Patrick Stewart continues to demonstrate his versatility with a wide range of upcoming projects.

In early 2002, Stewart filmed X2: X-Men United, the sequel to 20th Century Fox’s blockbuster X-Men, directed by Bryan Singer from a script by David Hayter and Zak Penn. Stewart reprised his role as ‘Professor Xavier,’ a wheelchair-bound professor said to be the planet’s most powerful telepath, which earned him a nomination for Favorite Actor in the Blockbuster Entertainment Awards. The sequel reunited all the original cast including Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry and Anna Paquin.

In December 2001, Stewart was heard as the voice of King Gobot in Nickelodeon Movies’ computer animated motion picture Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius. Martin Short provided the voice of King Gobot’s sidekick Ooblar. The movie was released by Paramount Pictures.

In Fall 2001, Stewart filmed Star Trek: Nemesis, the tenth installment of Paramount Pictures’ Star Trek feature films. He reprised his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard and re-teamed with Star Trek cast member Brent Spiner in a script by John Logan(Gladiator). Read more…..www.thepsn.org
